About: This is a 2 hour demo presentation of slip (liquid clay) techniques I use to add signature layers of decoration to my work. The main focus is my personal versions of slip-trailing –Raised, Filler, Fondant*, & Faux– & slip-sponging* for leather-hard clay on both vertical & horizontal surfaces. I also demo combining various slip techniques with paper resist, stencils, underglaze, and incising, plus a couple techniques I don’t use on my own work but love like Dairy Queen*.
*These are explainer words/ phrases I invented, like Suede, so don’t worry if you have no idea to what I’m referring. You will after the presentation!
Discussions include deco goals, tools, consistencies, timing, and ergonomics.
Who this is for: Beginners to Advanced, Throwers, Hand-builders & Sculptors ~ all are welcome. Techniques are applicable to all types of clays and firing ranges. If you’ve got your fingers in clay and are interested in adding another layer(s) of texture to your work, I’ve got you!
